An Explanation

You might believe that since people hear about Jesus, have seen the “Passion of The Christ” (thanks Mel!), and have access to a Bible in every hotel room, that we really don’t need to explain Him…

I find as a leader and pastor, that it doesn’t matter how many times I repeat something (which is still necessary), it doesn’t become clear without explanation… People need people to help them navigate through the subject at hand, and to help then wrap their minds around it. I believe we let ourselves off the hook because we repeat the Truth rather than God reproducing the Truth.

In Acts 8, there was an Ethiopian reading the Book of Isaiah (The Bible) and The Apostle Peter heard him reading and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The Ethiopians response was, “How can I unless someone explains it to me.”

Now this guy was an important official, so he wasn’t stupid! However, he needed someone… Turns out that he was reading about Jesus, so Peter “explained Jesus” to that man and it was all down hill from there. In fact, in this short encounter, the man “asked” to be baptized (no sign up sheet or classes) and went on with the rest of his life worshiping God. This is what happens when we simply explain Jesus- “Teach Jesus, light a fire, and watch them burn with passion for the Lord.”

Nice!
