To Believe or Not to Believe…
I have heard it said that “You only believe the parts of the Bible you are obedient towards.” The questions I raised today to challenge the thinking of our Creative Department was, “Do we believe in God’s strength?” Most of us initially answered, “of course,” however, that belief is shown primarily in our obedience to Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
I followed that question by asking them, “What are somethings we struggle with when leading people in worship on a Sunday?” These were their responses:
- That people will follow my leading
- That God’s Presence will show up
- That people will give their lives to God
- Am I good enough to lead people
- That the person who never participates in worship, will actually worship God
Then I read this verse:
Genesis 18
13 And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
What a powerful, yet simple question: Is anything too hard for the Lord? God asked Abraham this question when it came to the promise of offspring even in their old age. I love that God asked that question in different ways all throughout the Bible, like when He asked Moses, “Has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not.” God asked Moses this question when it came to Moses’ doubt in how God was going to feed 600,000 people meat for a month.
If we believe in God, then we need to be obedient to what He ask of us (share the gospel, make disciples, lead people to Christ, worship, etc), even if it seems as though it’s beyond our ability… because it’s about His strength and His ability to do what He said He will do.
Amen…
